Merge is the newly remodeled community center located in Mason, Ohio. For this new design the focus is centered on the principals of creating immersive, universal, and inclusice environments while still keeping elements of the original design to be resourceful. When designing to bring a community together it is important to accept diversity in all aspects. Think of the shadows and light formed by a tree blowing in the wind on a sunny day. Consider the difference in the leaves and the ways the wind carries them as diversity. The entity uniting all the forms together is the tree which in the design is the building itself. The inside is made up of those two parts together, the community which continues to vary every day. This abstract concept is carried through the center with the use of shadow and light, unifying colors as well as the occupancy flow. Merge is capturing the essence of a city that continues to reflect on the past while creating the future.
